Floating floors can trap moisture
Laminate and some vinyl systems sit above underlayment. Water can enter at seams or edges and move underneath without immediately appearing on the surface.
Carpet padding holds water
Carpet can feel only slightly damp while the padding below is saturated. Water can also spread several feet beyond the visible wet spot.
Wood can absorb moisture
Wood and engineered products can swell, cup, or separate when moisture remains trapped below them.
Tile does not mean the area is dry
Tile itself may tolerate water, but moisture can still affect grout, underlayment, wall plates, cabinets, and adjacent materials.
